Vehicle Overview

Brad Deery Honda is your local Honda dealership serving West Burlington Iowa City Davenport, and we’re thrilled to announce the arrival of the 2020 Honda Ridgeline. The Ridgeline is often praised for striking a balance between the utility of a midsize pickup and the driving experience of a car: ride comfort, interior roominess and noise isolation. A popular competitor to the Ridgeline is the Frontier, which is not yet available in its 2020 edition. The 2019 Nissan Frontier is often recognized for being a jack of all trades in the midsize pickup space. In that spirit, we present our 2020 Honda Ridgeline vs 2019 Nissan Frontier comparison as an opportunity to see how these two pickups stack up.

West Burlington IA - 2020 Honda Ridgeline Overview

Exterior - 2020 Honda Ridgeline

The 2019 Nissan Frontier is available in either a king cab or a crew cab. The crew cab is larger and has full-size rear doors as opposed to half-size. There are also two box lengths available: 5.0 and 6.1 feet. As mentioned in the opener, the Ridgeline is often praised for the car-like experience it delivers. This hasn’t happened by accident, and all Ridgeline models feature a crew cab because it’s the most practical configuration for drivers who use their trucks day in and day out. The box length is 5.3 feet. The bed includes a two-way tailgate, lockable in-bed trunk and a power outlet.

The king cab Frontier can seat four passengers. The Ridgeline and Frontier crew cabs can both seat five. Both crew cabs are similar in size. The Frontier does offer more legroom for the driver—42.4 vs 40.9 inches—which taller drivers may prefer, but that comes at a big hit to second-row legroom: 36.7 vs. 33.6. When it comes to headroom, shoulder room and hip room in both the front and back, both trucks are close, but the Ridgeline comes out ahead by a bit across the board.

Mechanical - Ridgeline specs in West Burlington IA

The 2020 Honda Ridgeline is available either as front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The Ridgeline Sport and RTL are front-wheel drive standard and available as all-wheel drive. All other trims are all-wheel drive standard. The Frontier is front-wheel drive standard but available as all-wheel drive across all trim levels, but note that there are certain cab/bed/trim combos where the drivetrain is locked in. All Ridgeline models feature the same powertrain: a 3.5L V6 mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. The V6 is rated for 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. Nissan offers a number of options. You can choose between a manual transmission or a five-speed automatic. You can also choose between a 2.5L i-4 that makes 152 hp and 171 lb.-ft. and a 4.0L V6 that makes 261 hp and 281 lb.-ft. The manual has five speeds with the i-4 and six speeds with the V6.

Technology - 2020 Honda Ridgeline dealer

A big change for the Ridgeline in 2020 is that Honda now includes its Honda Sensing group in the base equipment. Honda Sensing features adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assist and road departure mitigation. You also get an 8-inch touchscreen-based infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Satellite-linked navigation and voice recognition are optional. The Frontier does feature a 7-inch touchscreen and cruise control, but Android and Apple support along with driver assistance technologies are simply not available let alone optional.

Standard Equipment - 2020 Honda Ridgeline dealer

Honda really distinguishes the new Ridgeline with its standard equipment package. This generation was introduced in 2017, and the automaker has done a good job adding more standard equipment each year. Few trucks in this class give you these multimedia and driver safety features in the base trim. The current-gen Frontier was introduced way back in 2005. This means that the current Frontier is the 12th iteration, and while Nissan has continued to expand the standard group, certain technologies that drivers are coming to expect are just currently not possible without a major redesign to the foundation.
