The 2020 model year finds the Honda Pilot at the tail end of its third generation of production. For this year, this midsize SUV gets an additional trim level, the Black Edition, which takes the place of the Elite as its top-tier model. That brings the total number of Pilot trims to six: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, Elite, and Black Edition.

Exterior - 2020 Honda Pilot

Riding on 18-inch alloy wheels, the 2020 Honda Pilot relies on unibody construction for maximizing sturdiness. Standard exterior features also include a rear spoiler, LED low-beam headlights with auto on/off ability, and power side mirrors. On the EX, Honda adds LED fog lights in the front and heating ability and LED turn-signal indicators on the side mirrors. The EX-L gets a one-touch power sunroof, and the tailgate is operated with electric power. At the Touring level, the aforementioned memory system is linked to the side mirrors (which also gain reverse gear tilt-down ability), roof rails are added for exterior cargo-carrying ability, and the power tailgate can be opened by placing your foot underneath the SUV. A panoramic roof, rain-sensing ability on the windshield wipers, auto-dimming and power-folding abilities on the side mirrors appear on the Elite. True to its name, the Black Edition gets a gloss-black finish on its door handles and exclusive 20-inch black-finished alloy wheels.

Supplying three rows of seats, the 2020 Honda Pilot can accommodate up to eight people. However, you have the choice of swapping the second-row bench-style seats with a pair of captain’s seats on the Touring to reduce that capacity to seven. (Captain’s seats are standard on the Elite and Black Edition.) At the EX trim level, Honda introduces 10-way power adjustment with power lumbar support, front-seat heating, and one-touch operating ability for the second-row seats. Leather seat trim, steering-wheel leather cladding, 2-position memory system for the driver’s seat and side mirrors, and 4-way power adjustment on the front passenger seat appear at the EX-L trim level. The Touring gets second-row heating, and the leather seats are perforated (if you go with the seven-seater) for increased comfortability in hot weather. The Elite and Black Edition join the Touring in getting steering-wheel heating and perforated leather seats, with the Black Edition additionally gaining front-seat ventilation.

For audio and connectivity, the Pilot combines a seven-speaker 215-watt AM/FM stereo system, Bluetooth for hands-free phone calling and audio streaming, a USB port and an audio jack for connecting mobile devices and a second USB port for charging them, and a 5-inch LCD color screen. A huge jump awaits you at the EX level—with HondaLink for remote connectivity, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for smartphone integration, hands-free text messaging, a trial subscription to SiriusXM Radio, HD Radio technology, a second USB audio interface, CabinControl for turning your smartphone into a remote control, and an 8-inch touchscreen. Two second-row charging-only USB ports are added at the EX-L level.
